Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports at Farr West

Now that school is underway, I wanted to share some important information with parents.

At Farr West we use a School PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports) framework to promote positive behavior and create a supportive learning environment. It focuses on teaching and rewarding good behavior rather than primarily concentrating on misbehavior. We believe that prevention is the best approach to behavior management.

Here's how it works:

  1. Clear Expectations: We clearly define and teach the behaviors we expect from students.

  2. Positive Reinforcement: Students are recognized and rewarded for meeting these expectations.

  3. Support and Guidance: We provide additional support for students who need help meeting behavioral expectations.

Our goal is to create a positive and respectful school climate where all students can thrive.

Please familiarize yourself with our school rules, expectations and procedures. All staff and students are trained throughout the year on these items.

We also understand that misbehavior may occur from time to time. When it does, we have a range of resources to guide us in supporting, intervening, and addressing misconduct when needed. We follow Weber School Board Policies and utilize schoolwide systems to ensure consistency and clarity. “It is Weber District’s philosophy that students learn these skills best through teaching and restorative practices rather than punishment. This policy is intended to guide administrators and teachers in providing appropriate interventions to address student misconduct while also ensuring that the health and safety of all students is not compromised.” (Excerpt from Weber School District Policy 5200)

Along with district policy, we also use a tiered system to prevent, identify and address misconduct when it occurs. Our Classroom and Office Managed Behavior Guide is a document that helps guide us and can be used as a reference for parents or guardians navigating incidents that may involve your student(s).

*Please note that this document is intended as a guide for teachers and parents, not a teaching tool for students.

Our school PBIS team includes a parent representative, and we have added a parent feedback form this year as well (found on the linked documents above). We value your input.

Reach out if you ever have questions. We look forward to working together to help our students continue to enter to learn, lead to achieve, and FLY to their greatest potential.

Thank you for your support this year!
